Help me chooseWhat every Perfectbooks service has in common
Small business bookkeeping services are only as good as the person doing them. Whichever service you start with, the way the work gets done stays the same, because it’s the same bookkeeper doing it.
That matters more than it sounds. When payroll, the monthly books and tax prep all come from one person, the numbers agree with each other, questions get answered once, and nobody has to explain your business to a new team every quarter.
Handled personally
Every file is worked by me, a certified, fully insured bookkeeper. More about Holly.
Your software, your file
QuickBooks, Xero or Digits, and the subscription stays in your name.
Prices you know up front
Per transaction for monthly work, hourly for cleanup, quoted before anything starts.
Messy books are normal
However far behind you are, the conversation stays practical and kind.
Bookkeeping for contractors, freelancers, small businesses and CPAs
The same services, set up differently depending on how your business makes and spends money.
Contractors and trades
Costs tracked by job, retainage and change orders recorded, and sub payments ready for 1099s. This is where my career happened, inside flooring, plumbing, painting and cabinet businesses.
Freelancers and 1099 workers
Business and personal spending kept apart, expenses where your CPA expects them, and a monthly profit number so tax season doesn’t arrive as a surprise.
Owner-run small businesses
Current books every month without hiring someone in-house, with payroll added the day you take on your first employee.
CPA firms
Monthly bookkeeping for your clients, delivered reconciled, so your team can stay focused on tax and advisory work.
Bookkeeping by business stage
What a small business needs from its bookkeeper changes as it grows. Here’s what usually matters most at each stage.
Just starting
Software chosen, a chart of accounts built around how you’ll spend money, and business and personal spending kept apart from day one. The cheapest bookkeeping you’ll ever buy is the cleanup you never need.
Growing and hiring
Monthly bookkeeping plus payroll. Once employees arrive, withholdings and payroll liabilities have to match the books every month, or notices start showing up.
Behind and stuck
A cleanup first, then a routine. Trying to keep up month to month on top of a backlog rarely works. Fix the past, then keep the present clean.
Borrowing or selling
Lender-ready financial statements built on reconciled books. Banks, landlords and buyers all ask for the same thing: numbers they can trust.
What to look for in a small business bookkeeping service
Plenty of services can post transactions. The differences show up later, when you need a question answered, a mess fixed or a report a lender will accept. These are the things worth checking before you sign with anyone, Perfectbooks included.
If a service can’t give you a clear answer on most of them, keep looking.
Who actually does the work
One named bookkeeper, or whoever is free this month?
Certification and insurance
Certified in your software, and insured if something goes wrong.
Reconciliations every month
Not just categorizing, but matching every account to its statement.
Experience with businesses like yours
Contractors need job costing. A generic setup won’t show it.
Pricing you can predict
Published rates, and a quote before any work begins.
Your data stays yours
The software and file in your name, with access you can revoke.

Small business bookkeeping, answered
What bookkeeping services does a small business need?
At minimum, transactions recorded and bank and card accounts reconciled every month, so the reports are accurate. Add payroll once you have employees, 1099 tracking once you pay contractors, and tax prep when the books are ready. A free consultation sorts out which ones apply to you.
Can I start with one service and add more later?
Yes. Starting with a cleanup or monthly bookkeeping and adding payroll or tax prep as the business grows is common. Because it’s the same bookkeeper, adding a service doesn’t mean starting over.
What’s the difference between bookkeeping and accounting?
Bookkeeping records and reconciles the money as it moves, every month. Accounting, usually done by a CPA, uses those books for tax planning, business returns and work like audits. Good bookkeeping is what makes the accounting fast and accurate.
Do you offer small business bookkeeping outside Colorado?
Yes. I’m based in Aurora and work virtually, so any business with its books in QuickBooks, Xero or Digits can work with me the same way, wherever it is.
Do you work with startups and brand-new businesses?
Yes. Starting with clean books is the easiest time to do it. We set up the software and chart of accounts around how you’ll actually spend money, so there’s never a mess to clean up later.
How often will I hear from my bookkeeper?
At least once a month, when the books are closed and your reports are ready, plus a short list of questions whenever something can’t be placed from the records. In between, you can call or email whenever something comes up.
Do you need access to my bank accounts?
No login to your bank is needed. Your bank and card feeds connect to your bookkeeping software, and I work in the software through an accountant invite you control. Statements fill any gaps.
Can you take over from my current bookkeeper?
Yes. I review how the books were set up and what’s been reconciled, fix anything that’s off, and take over from there in the same file, so your history stays intact and nothing gets lost in the handoff.
What do small business bookkeeping services cost?
Monthly bookkeeping is $0.75 or $1.00 per transaction, cleanup is $50 an hour, and payroll and tax returns are priced separately. Examples and the full list are on the pricing page.
Do I need to be in Colorado to use these services?
No. The work happens virtually through your bookkeeping software and statements, so a business anywhere in the country can work with me the same way. Colorado and Denver clients do get someone who already knows the local payroll and sales tax rules.
